What is cocopeat Cocopeat is a multipurpose growing medium created out of coconut husk. The fibrous coconut husk is pre-washed, machine dried, sieved and made free from sand and different contaminations resembling animal and plant residue. Cocopeat is excellent alternative to moss and simple soil. Advantages of cocopeat 100% organic medium Uniform composition, odourless Good soil drainage / excellent aeration High water holding capacity, high nutrient uptake Promotes strong root development Affordable and high quality Ideal pH and EC for development of plants Preparation of cocopeat mixture for potting and seed germination 1) Cocopeat bricks weighing about 4 to 4.5 kg are available in the market. 2) Take 20 – 25 litres of water in a large tub, submerge the cocopeat brick in the water. In 3-4 hrs the cocopeat will be fluffy. 3) Drain out the excess water and wash the cocopeat repeat this process twice. 4) Mix 100 g of calcium nitrate + 100 ml of humic acid + 100 g of Trichoderma or 40 g of carbendazim powder in 20 litres of water. 5) Soak cocopeat in this solution for 2-3 hours. 6) Add organic manure in 1:1 ratio. (Soil should be added for potting of large plants.) 7) The cocopeat is now ready to use the fungicides carbendazim or Trichoderma prevent any soil borne diseases. 8) It can be used for germinating seeds in trays or in bags or filling pots.
